$DELL call prices rise

by

Option traders have made big profits on bullish positions in Dell Technologies (DELL).

On Jul. 21Market Rebellion’s Unusual Option Activity Service found that 5,300 October $52.50 calls were bought for $3.90 to $4.07 with shares at $53.89. This was clearly fresh buying, as open interest in the contract was just 790 before the activity appeared.

Those calls have traded for as much as $18.11 today, a 344.96% return, while the stock rose 30.14% in the same time period, underscoring how options can far outperform their underlying shares.

Long calls lock in the price where investors can buy a stock, letting them position for a rally at limited cost with the potential for significant leverage. They carry less risk than owning shares because the most that can be lost is the price of the options no matter how far the stock might fall.

DELL was last up 22.03% today at $68.64
