As reported on Bloomberg Crypto, “Last month, the Joe Bananas boutique on Manhattan’s Madison Avenue closed so a couple flush from recent cryptocurrency gains could shop unencumbered.
“Unlike during the crypto bubble of late 2017, the pair weren’t seeking to splurge on trophies such as the Lamborghinis that epitomized the exuberance of the earlier boom. They were more interested in the made-to-measure suits and limited-edition jackets that have won the praises of Elton John and other celebrities. The pair paid for everything with crypto.
“’In the end it wasn’t a crazy amount, it was only $45,000–$46,000,’ said Elizabeth White, who set up the appointment through her concierge service, The White Co.
“At the height of the previous crypto rally, the firm used to source Lamborghinis for young, mostly male, clients. Nowadays, as Bitcoin and other coins are shooting straight up again, she is seeing different kinds of requests: Clients are asking her to pay their mom’s rent, buy jewelry or other — cheaper — items, she says. Though one client did recently order a flyboard, which cost about $70,000, including personal aviation classes.
“’The lavish, lavish items — like having everybody want a Lamborghini — have gone away,’ White said. ‘The crypto wealthy now are more aware of the upswing and the market going up, but they are also very well aware of the crash that happened.'”
