Blockchain Developers Abandon Github Following Microsoft Acquisition

+IQ THOUGHTS

Microsoft just doesn’t get decentralization — but it will.

Clearly, developers saw Microsoft’s acquisition of Github and a disturbance in the Force, and with good reason, from their point of view. One of the biggest features of blockchain and cryptocurrency is decentralization because it takes the power away from the few and hands it to the many.

Not to mix our Star Wars and Star Trek references, but as Spock so eloquently put it, “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”

Developers seem to agree and are flocking to Gitlab from Github. And we think this is a refreshing flex of developer muscle.

In the meantime, the folks at Microsoft are practically begging for a chance. In a tweet that was quickly taken down, Microsoft developer Dmitry Lyalin said:

“For those talking about #movingtogitlab, it is your choice but we’re real people here & Microsoft is not what it was 10 years ago. If you have questions just talk to us, we’ll do our best to resolve your fears. We’re 100% invested into making GitHub great, give us a chance.”

But as Bitcoin core developer Wladimir van der Laan put it, “I expect this is the beginning of a long painful road of (GitHub) toward obsolescence.”

OUTRAGE: Coinbase Customers Have Filed More Than 134 Pages Of Complaints With The SEC

+IQ THOUGHTS

Coinbase has been a big port of entry for people entering the world of cryptocurrency, but the exchange needs to address these issues brought by its customers.

If you’ve read us for any length of time, you know we take personal responsibility very seriously, and we’re all aware that, for the most part, it’s sorely lacking.

We also think it’s extremely important for corporations to take their responsibilities seriously. In this case, we think Coinbase needs to make good with customers who’ve experienced some serious issues, including lost funds.
