IV on coronavirus, into FOMC policy meeting, Iowa Democratic caucuses, quarter results
Russell 2000 Index (RUT) January weekly call option implied volatility is at 21, February is at 17, March is at 17, April is at 17; compared to its 52-week range of 12 to 25.
S&P Dep Receipts (SPY) January weekly call option implied volatility is at 21, February is at 17, March is at 16, April is at 15; compared to its 52-week range of 10 to 23.
PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) January weekly call option implied volatility is at 26, February is at 19, March is at 19, April is at 17; compared to its 52-week range of 12 to 27 into, Apple (APPL) results, FOMC meeting and Iowa Democratic caucuses on February 3.
Ishares Iboxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond Etf (HYG) January weekly call option implied volatility is at 8, February is at 6, March is at 6, April is at 5; compared to its 52-week range of 4 to 9. Call put ratio 1 call to 6.4 puts with focus on February 87 puts.

The outbreak of the coronavirus has led to a decline in global stock prices that had their worst day since August last year resulting in a increase in volatility. WTI Crude Oil futures prices continue to decline and, as often occurs during stock market sell-offs, gold and treasury prices both rallied.
Industrial metals have under-performed precious metals over the period since Donald Trump was elected U.S. president; and the price of oil is lower relative to gold. An indication people are worried about growth?
