March 9- NHL: LA Kings vs Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche are finally starting to look like the defending Stanley Cup champs.
It’s good news for a Colorado team that’s had an unlucky season so far. They’ve dealt with a plethora of injuries to core players, causing them to battle to stay afloat in the playoff race.
However, a remarkable turnaround has emerged in the past few weeks. While captain Gabriel Landeskog is still out indefinitely, Nathan McKinnon is back to game form and has leveled up his game. The goaltending has also been holding up, keeping opponents to 2.5 goals-per-game over their past 10 contests.
Meanwhile, the LA Kings are finally emerging from their rebuild and have a core that could run the Western Conference in a couple years. They’re not Stanley Cup contenders yet, but you can see flashes here and there.
LA’s main flaw is goaltending. They’ve allowed 3.20 goal-per-game in their past 10 and immediate help isn’t on the way.
Their offense has also been good, but can they keep up with an Avs team that has three of the best players in the league on their active roster? We say no.
Rebel’s Pick: Colorado Avalanche -1.5 (+155) @ 1U
March 10: College Lacrosse- Loyola Maryland vs Duke
March is here, which means college lacrosse is picking up steam. We’re starting to see who the real powerhouses are this season and Friday brings us a matchup between two of them: No. 7 Loyola Maryland vs No. 4 ranked Duke.
Duke is coming off its first ever road win against No. 20 Syracuse and now heads home where the club is a perfect 3-0.
The Blue Devils have one of the top attackmen in the nation in Brennan O’Neill, who was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after his six-point performance against Syracuse.
Duke and Loyola Maryland both have five players with 10 points or more, but Loyola’s top scorer has 15 points. In contrast, O’Neill, who leads the Blue Devils, has 34. They have two other players with 20 points or more.
This is a team known for its proficient defensive play and possesses several potent offensive weapons that prove highly effective in tight situations.
We’ll take the red-hot Blue Devils at home.
