Record: 40-51-4 (2.11U)
The Hurricanes came storming back in the third period and scored in OT to put us in the green last week! Now, we’re dipping back into the NHL Playoffs.
May 4: NHL- Florida Panthers vs Toronto Maple Leafs
First off, let me just say how refreshing it is to see some different matchups in the second round for once. Panthers/Leafs, Kraken/Dallas. It’s so refreshing after all the years of Pens/Caps, Lightning/Everyone.
The Panthers took Game 1 against the Maple Leafs, 4-2, on Tuesday and looked every bit as good as they did in their series against the Boston Bruins. But, you could argue that the Maple Leafs were the better team in Game 1. They owned the entire second period and were denied by the Panthers’ red-hot goalie.
Game 2 will surely see some adjustments for both teams. If the Leafs can isolate Panthers forward Mathew Tkachuk and simplify their game, we think they have a great chance of evening the series.
Rebel’s Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (+130) @ 1U
May 6: UFC- Aljamain Sterling vs Henry Cejudo
After nearly three years of retirement, Henry Cejudo is set to make his comeback in the octagon to face reigning champion Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling this coming Saturday. Both fighters have equal odds of winning at -110 on DraftKings, but the majority of bets, about 67%, have been placed on Sterling.
We’re going with the majority and betting on Sterling to win. Despite Cejudo’s impressive wrestling background, three years away from professional fighting is a significant hiatus. Although he has been coaching during this time, we think there’s a chance he may have lost his edge.
Sterling is just a powerhouse. He’s on an eight-fight win streak and holds both reach and leg advantages over Cejudo. If Sterling can capitalize on his superior jiu-jitsu skills and avoid being taken down, we believe he will emerge victorious for the ninth time in a row.
Rebel’s Pick: Sterling ML (-110) @ 1U
