4/28: NFL Draft

The NFL draft is tonight, and the Market Rebels see money to be made here. However, we’re staying away from the volatile first few picks and instead have found some value later in the draft.

One position that caught our eye is Logan Hall being drafted before pick 39 (-115).

Hall is a 6’ 6” defensive lineman from Georgia who can use his big body to disrupt the opposition’s offense. Scouts have mentioned his explosiveness off the ball and swim move as strengths to his game.

Multiple mock drafts have him going at the end of the first round with either the Kansas City Chiefs or Cincinnati Bengals taking him. Kansas City’s defense struggled mightily at the start of last season before improving down the stretch, so this could be an appealing pick for them keep that upward trend going.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah was on Monday’s episode of ‘Pardon My Take’ to talk dark horse draft picks and he mentioned Hall as a guy who has had numerous visits with teams. At the very least, that shows teams are interested in him. We’ll take the chance.

Rebels Pick: Logan Hall Under 38.5 Draft Position -115 (1U)

4/28: Dallas Mavericks (-1) @ Utah Jazz

After a big win on the Golden State Warriors’ spread last week, we’re back to betting on the NBA playoffs. Tonight, the Dallas Mavericks take a 3-2 series lead to Utah for a chance to advance.

The Mavericks enter the game as 1-point favorites (-110) but also offer decent odds on the Moneyline at -115. The Over/Under is set at 210.5 (-110).

Here’s the simplest explanation for why we like the Mavericks tonight: Luka Doncic.

After missing the first three games of the series, he returned with a vengeance and has looks unstoppable. He’s posted a double-double in both games and is averaged over 31 points-per-game. The Utah Jazz simply haven’t had an answer to him, and it’s shown.

If Doncic wasn’t enough, 25-year-old Jalen Brunson has been lights out this series as well. He’s averaging nearly 29 points-per-game and dropped 41 in game two. With Doncic back, Brunson will have less of a focus on him, allowing the guard to create some space around him.

The Jazz are a good team, too, so we don’t anticipate a blowout here. Donovan Mitchell averaging 26 points-per-game and has a decent supporting cast of Jordan Clarkson and Bojan Bogdanovic behind him. But none of these players are the game-breaker that Doncic is, and Mitchell was held to just 9 points last game.

We see the Mavs winning by more than one point here so we’re locking down the spread.
