TORM plc (TRMD) Call Prices Rise

Upside option positions are turning big profits in TORM plc (TRMD).

On June 10, Market Rebellion’s Unusual Activity service identified the purchase of 3,200 June $17.50 call options at $0.29 per contract, with TRMD shares trading at $17.09, significantly exceeding the strike’s previous open interest of 460 contracts.

The timing proved particularly fortuitous, coming just days after TORM’s June 4 announcement regarding an increase in its share capital, and amid ongoing positive sentiment around the tanker shipping company’s strategic positioning in global refined oil product transportation markets.

Those June $17.50 calls have traded as high as $1.37 today with the stock at $18.83, delivering impressive returns of approximately 372.41% from the initial entry price of $0.29. Meanwhile, TRMD shares have gained approximately 10.18% from their initial trading level around $17.09, demonstrating how options can deliver significantly amplified returns compared to simply owning the underlying stock.

This performance illustrates the power of options leverage when the directional thesis proves correct, though it’s important to note that this same leverage can work against traders when market moves go in the opposite direction.

The strong move in TRMD comes as the tanker shipping company benefits from stabilizing TCE rates, cooling trade tensions, and an aging fleet poised for retirement. The company specializes in the ownership and operation of product tankers, primarily focused on transporting refined oil products across global markets.

TRMD closed this session at $18.65, up 2.75%, and up significantly from the $17.09 level when the original call activity was spotted.
