As reported by Digitimes, “Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and its design services partners have recently seen orders for cryptocurrency mining chips pick up, as major crypto mining machine suppliers in China and Japan are racing to roll out new machines despite the sustained mining chill, according to industry sources.
“The sources said that China’s Bitmain, Canaan Creative and Ebang Communication, which together command about 90% of the global Bitcoin mining devices, have released new devices with higher performance ASICs to further consolidate their market shares while also seeking IPOs on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to raise funds for the development of more high-end chips. Japan’s counterpart GMO is also gearing up to challenge the world’s top-3 suppliers in China by introducing new mining devices.
“Among them, top mining ASIC supplier Bitmain plans to file an IPO application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in September for an official launch late 2018 or early 2019.
“Canaan Creative, now the No. 2 supplier of crypto mining ASICs, has recently launched new Avalon A9 mining machine adopting ASICs fabricated on TSMC’s 7nm process. Having utilized 16nm process at TSMC’s 12-inch wafer fab in Nanjing, China for a while, the China chipmaker has now joined TSMC’s club of VIP clients, the sources said.”
