Quick recap
Markets closed modestly lower across the board last week. The S&P 500 finished down just 0.32% at 4,662. The Dow fell a bit more on the week, closing down 0.88% at 35,911. Meanwhile, tech stocks managed to slow their recent dip, as the Nasdaq finished down 0.28% at 14,893.
Crypto update
Bitcoin BTC is beginning to settle above the $40k level after sliding into the new year. At writing, the leading cryptocurrency is up 1.2% on the week near $42,200.
Much of the remaining crypto landscape is starting to recoup recent losses as well. While pulling back slightly in the last 24 hours, Ethereum ETH +5.4% and Binance Coin BNB +11.2% are holding onto decent gains on the week. Other cryptocurrencies like Cardano ADA +30%, Fantom FTM +34%, and Dogecoin DOGE +15% are performing quite nicely.

What to watch this week
Earnings roundup
Earnings season is beginning to hit full speed as we get Q4 data from some of the biggest names on Wall Street this week.
Goldman Sachs (GS), Bank of America (BAC), Morgan Stanley (MS), American Airlines (AAL), United Airways (UAL), Netflix (NFLX), Schlumberger (SLB), and Procter & Gamble (PG) highlight the the biggest reports to watch.

Economic calendar
It’s a relatively slow week in terms of economic events. Here’s some of the most important things to watch:
- Empire state manufacturing index (Jan.) – Tuesday at 8:30am ET
- NAHB home builders index (Jan.) – Tuesday at 10am ET
- Building permits & housing starts (SAAR Dec.) – Wednesday at 8:30am ET
- Initial and continuing jobless claims – Thursday at 8:30am ET
- Philadelphia Fed manufacturing survey (Jan.) – Thursday at 8:30am ET
- Existing home sales (SAAR Dec.) – Thursday at 10am ET
- Leading economic indicators (Dec.) – Friday at 10am ET
