Your Trading Week Ahead — October 3rd

Welcome to Your Trading Week Ahead for October 3rd. Here’s what you need to know before you go…

Quick recap

Chief Options Strategist Ryan Mastro breaks down trading strategies from the main stage.

Before diving into all the market action, we have to talk about the Market Rebellion 2021 Trading Conference this past weekend.

We had a packed house at the beautiful Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. It was two full days of market insights and trading strategies from some of the best in the industry.

A big shoutout to everyone who joined us both in-person and virtually. You helped make #RebelConference2021 the biggest yet and a truly memorable experience.

Miss the event? Check out some of the highlights:

Day 1 Highlights: Tony Dwyer goes full-macro, Ryan Mastro talks options strategies, AJ Monte provides live rapid-fire analysis, and Bill Johnson explains why ‘speculating’ isn’t always a bad word.

Day 2 Highlights: Jon highlights the importance of discipline, Pete encourages you to find your trading niche, Tom Lee details his economic outlook, Robert Irvine talks purpose, and Jordan Fried describes the future of fintech.

We can’t wait for next year! Now, on to the markets…

The major indices all managed to close green on Friday. But the S&P 500 still finished the week lower by 2.2% at 4,357. The Dow followed a similar trend, closing down 1.36% at 34,326. Nasdaq was hit the worst, finishing down 3.2% at 14,566.

Bitcoin and other cryptos began grinding higher throughout the week after a somewhat dramatic pullback due to continued anti-crypto rhetoric from China.

At writing, $BTC is trading near $48K, up about 10% from last Sunday. Ether ($ETH) +11%, Cardano ($ADA) +1%, Solana ($SOL) 23%, and ($XRP) +11% are all moving higher as well.

What to watch this week

Traders await jobs data

The biggest hurdle for Wall Street this week will be the latest labor market data. Traders will get the Labor Department’s September jobs report on Friday.

We’ll see if payroll gains accelerated in September after a very disappointing August jobs report revealed just 235k jobs returned versus the more than 700k expected.

Experts anticipate about 475k nonfarm payrolls returned last month and that the unemployment rate fell to 5.1%. That would mark the lowest since March 2020.

Earnings roundup

There’s only a few noteworthy earnings reports to keep an eye on this week:

  • Monday  – PepsiCo ($PEP) after market close.
  • Wednesday – Constellation Brands ($STZ) and Acuity Brands ($AYI) premarket. Levi Strauss & Co. ($LEVI) after market close.
  • Thursday – Conagra Brands ($CAG) and Helen of Troy ($HELE) premarket.
